The Type 7 is Clavis's most advance Belt Meter, it measures in Hertz (HZ), Newtons (N), and Pounds (Lbs).  Suitable for all belt types including toothed timing belts and poly-vee belts.  It has a frequency measurement range of 10Hz to 600Hz.

The Newton (N) and Pounds (Lbs) values are calculated from the belt span and belt mass data, which is entered into the meter.  Up to 3 sets of data may be stored in the meter for easy recall.  The display may be changed from Hertz (Hz), Newtons (N), and Pounds (Lbs) by the press of a single key.  Based upon measured belt frequency, the meter can calculate belt tensions up to 9,990 N (2,200 lbs).

The Clavis Belt Tension Meter is a two-component system consisting of a handheld meter attached to an optical sensor via an electrical cable. The optical sensor uses an infrared beam to detect the vibration of a belt strand and sends a signal to the meter. The sensor includes an LED that produces an orange light beam to help aim the invisible infrared ray. Comparing this input to the vibration of a quartz crystal, the meter computes the natural frequency of the belt. The result is shown in the display window as hertz (oscillations per second).

The internal programming of the meter is also able to report the belt tension in units of force (Type 7 either newtons or pounds-force) provided the operator has entered the belt mass and span length using the manually operated keypad.

The meter operates on four AA batteries. Battery life is approximately 30 hours continuous use. The battery compartment is accessible at the back of the meter.

A manual, a tuning fork for checking calibration and a storage case are included with the complete kit.
